How it works

Mentees Mentors

  • 1. Join as a Mentee

To join the program as a mentee, you’ll start by filling out a short intake form with your demographics and interests. After you apply, our program coordinator will connect with you to confirm your information, learn a bit more about your goals, and welcome you into the program.

  • 1. Apply to Join as a Mentor

Begin by filling out a short intake form where you can share your Nation, region, focus areas, and the ways you like to connect. You will also be asked about your mentorship style, whether that is clinical guidance, cultural teachings, community knowledge, or being a supportive presence. After you apply, our program coordinator will connect with you to confirm your details. Your profile will then be added to the members-only mentor directory, which celebrates the diversity, experience, and cultural knowledge within our community while protecting mentor privacy.

  • 2. Get to Know Our Mentors

Once you have joined, you will receive a passcode to access the mentor directory. From there, you can browse profiles to learn more about each mentor, including their Nation, region, focus areas, and the ways they like to connect. If you are not sure who feels like the right fit, you can fill out our Mentor Match Questionnaire. We will help you connect with someone whose experience, knowledge, and style reflect what you are looking for in a mentor.

  • 2. Session Management

As a mentor, mentees will be able to book directly with you through the program site. You have full control over your calendar and can update it at any time without needing to go through administration. When a mentee books a session, you will receive an alert right away. All facilitation and compensation are managed through the site to keep the process simple, consistent, and secure.

  • 3. Connecting with a Mentor

Once you have found the mentor that feels right, booking is simple. Each mentor manages their own calendar, so what you see is always up to date. From there, you can choose the type of session that works best for you, whether it is your first mentorship meeting, a one hour check in, or a shorter thirty minute session.

  • 3. First Meeting

When a mentee books their first appointment with you, they will complete an intake form that shares their background, goals, focus areas, and preferred ways of connecting. This helps you prepare for a meaningful first conversation.

As a mentor, you will also receive a Welcome Kit with conversation guides, a mentorship agreement template to co-create with your mentee, and prompts for setting goals and expectations together.

  • 4. Share Your Story

As part of booking, you will complete a short intake form that gives your mentor a sense of who you are. This is your chance to share a little about yourself, your goals, and the kinds of support you are looking for. The information you provide helps your mentor prepare for your session and ensures that your time together is meaningful and focused on what matters most to you.

  • 4. Move at a Pace That Feels Right

Some mentees will want to connect with you regularly, while others may only meet a few times throughout the year. Every mentorship journey is unique. You and your mentee will work together to find a rhythm that feels right for both of you, based on their needs, goals, and availability.

  • 5. First meeting

Your first meeting is a chance to get to know each other and talk about what a supportive mentorship will look like. Each pair receives a Welcome Kit, which includes an overview of the program, a mentorship agreement, and conversation guides to help you set goals and expectations together.

  • 5. Your Time is Valued

We deeply value the time, energy, and knowledge you share as a mentor. You will be compensated for your mentoring hours, which also count toward your BCCNM professional development requirements for yearly registration. Our program is listed on BCCNM’s Learning Resource page as an approved program and is currently the only paid midwifery mentorship program in Canada

As a mentor, you will also have access to the members only resource library. This is a shared space, protected by a passkey, where both mentors and mentees can upload and explore materials. It is a living collection of cultural teachings, clinical tools, advocacy resources, wellness practices, and community knowledge, all designed to support your mentorship journey.
